Aamir Khan's 'PK' has been given huge thumbs up in Pakistan.

The film, which has been helmed by Rajkumar Hirani, has not only grossed over INR300 crore in India, but has gotten rave reviews and repeat visits in the neighboring country and is expected to cross Rs15 crore there, the Dawn reported.

Manager Marketing from Distributor Club (PVT) Ltd for the country, Hassaan Rizvi said that the main reasons for the movie's success are Hirani and Khan, with another factor being Pakistan presented in a positive light.

The Pakistanis are loving Khan's loveable depiction of the unaware, inquisitive alien, and a fan, who claimed to have watched the film 3 times already, said not only it stars Khan, the film also "addresses the theist question in such an effective manner. With religious extremism on the rise in both India and Pakistan, 'PK' is an excellent film that deals with such pressing issues."

According to the Indian Express, the film may as well become the first Indian movie to cross INR600 crore worldwide.

Dhobi Ghat director is everyone’s friend

Mixed reviews of Dhobi Ghat haven't upset director Kiran Rao and she believes those who liked the film are her target audience as she had always maintained that the film was not for everyone. 'I have heard different things. I have enjoyed some of the reviews very much. Some reviews were of people who didn't like the film that much. I am happy that some people liked it and they are the kind of people for whom we made this film,'  said Kiran. 'This is an unusual film and not for everyone's taste, which was expected. I am glad that that the audience I made the film for are liking it,' she added. Kiran's directorial debut is set in Mumbai. She tries to portray the city in its true colours through four people who come from very different backgrounds. When their worlds intersect, this leaves them forever altered. Monica Dogra (Shai) plays an Indian-American banker who is in the city for a photographic expedition, Prateik Babbar (Munna) is a washerboy and Kriti Malhotra essays Yasmin, while Aamir Khan, who is also producing the film, plays a seclusive modern art painter. Prateik has garnered rave reviews for his performance from all corners and Kiran is also all praise for him. 'Prateik is already a big name in Bollywood, according to me. He has just arrived and has already proven himself with this film. He is a very versatile and very nuanced actor. I certainly hope he is going to get a lot more roles in future,' said Kiran. There was an appreciable footfall for Dhobi Ghat in the opening shows in PVR, says a source.

Kiran Rao, who debuts as a director with her film Dhobi Ghat is quite a friendly gal one must say. The director who is quite the centre of attention these days as her movie is about to hit screens on Friday is quoted as having said “Everyone’s my friend” by tabloids. Now the fact that this young lady is a very fine director and a confident one at that is certainly evident from the kind of movie that she is debuting with. In times of big block busters this young lady is coming out with a film which is sort of an art film. Rather, some years back it would have been called parallel cinema. However with a firm belief in herself and the subject of the film Dhobi Ghat which revolves around the four characters in the film who live in Mumbai and each has a separate view about life seems to be quite an interesting one.
In fact the movie has already started getting some rave publicity and despite the fact that super star Aamir Khan, Kiran’s husband is very much a part of the movie the focus is just Kiran Rao and her directorial debut. Now, with Kiran Rao maintaining such good PRO skills too by calling everyone her friend- she certainly has places to go!

Amitabh Bachchan offers help to A.K. Hangal

On hearing that veteran actor A.K. Hangal is going through financial crisis due to old-age related ailments, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has offered help. He said that he would render immediate support and help. “It has been sad and unnerving to learn today of the dire condition of one of our most devoted and dedicated character artists of the Industry, Mr AK Hangal. I came to know of this through the kind offices of the cyber - the net and the social net. I have now initiated my office, sitting some distance, to render immediate support and help. As individuals, as fraternity, as humans, that is the least we can do,” he wrote on his blog. Amitabh said that it's sad to see veteran actors on their knees due to unavoidable circumstances. “My prayers and wishes for Hangal Saheb. May he recover soon and without the worry and concern of where the next medication is going to come from,” he added. Earlier, celebrities like Jaya Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan have offered help to the actor. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had given Rs. 50,000 and film associations like Cine Artistes Welfare Trusta and Cine and TV Artists Association (CINTAA) have promised financial support to the actor. Hangal, who has acted in over 125 films, is in deep financial crunch, as he has been bed-ridden due to old-age-related ailments. His monthly medical bill is over Rs.15, 000. This has forced his son Vijay, 75, who worked in Bollywood as a still photographer but gave up his work due to back problem, to approach CINTAA for help.

After Aamir Khan, megastar Amitabh Bachchan has come forward to offer support to ailing veteran actor A.K. Hangal, who is languishing in penury. "It has been sad and unnerving to learn today of the dire condition of one of our most devoted and dedicated character artists of the industry, Mr A.K. Hangal. I came to know of this through the kind offices of the cyber - the net and the social net," Amitabh wrote on his blog bigb.bigadda.com. "I have now initiated my office, sitting some distance, to render immediate support and help. As individuals, as fraternity, as humans, that is the least we can do (sic)," he wrote. The 68-year-old has worked with Hangal in "Abhimaan", "Sholay" and "Sharabi", and Amitabh admits that he's disturbed to read about the 95-year-old's condition. "It has always been disturbing to read and learn of such occurrences. I do not wish to mention names here, for they are individuals that were idolised and revered in their prime, and bringing up their condition now is an act that would seem most demeaning to them and to their stature," he said. "Life's stories have been overloaded with vivid descriptions of unfortunate circumstances. Circumstances that have brought the greats down to their knees. It is shocking and most undesirable to comment on it, but a quiet yet considered action for their good, is what I would want to get involved in. And I do. My prayers and wishes for Hangal Saheb." Hangal, a professional tailor-turned-actor, currently lives with his son Vijaya, 75, in his ground floor flat in Saraswati Apartments, Santacruz East. He is unable to afford his mounting medical bills as he suffering from old age related problems. The father-son duo together have a medical bill of over Rs.15,000 per month and now have to practically choose between spending on food and medication.

‘Dhobi Ghat’ is an intelligently woven piece of art

Ahead of release of her directorial debut Dhobi Ghat, Kiran Rao and her husband Aamir, who acts in the film, Thursday apologised to the members of the dhobi (washerman) community if they had hurt their sentiments but said the matter had been amicably resolved. "This last two-three days' experience has been a learning experience for me. When I met (Amit) Khatriji, Kanoji and Dr Satishji (of the community's associations), I realized that unknowingly we might have hurt someone, at which I felt bad. If I have unknowingly hurt anyone, I would want to approach him and apologise. I want to say to all 'dhobi bhais' across the country that I have full love and respect for them and I deeply apologise if I have hurt you,"  said Aamir. Kiran said: "I wrote the script with best intentions and I have respects for dhobis and all such communities that have a stigma attached to the title given to them. I will make an effort in the future to be sensitive to that. I don't want to hurt someone's feelings and I want to understand what people go through." Kiran and Aamir, who faced objections on the name of the film from Akhil Bharathiya Dhobi Mahasanga and Akhil Bharatiya Dhobi Samaj, met office bearers of the associations and showed them the film. It was explained to them that the film was named after a place called Dhobi Ghat, which is a tourist spot in Mumbai. After watching the film, the association officials were convinced that nothing demeaning has been shown about dhobis and praised performance of Prateik Babbar, who played a dhobi in the film. But they still had objections to the film's title so Aamir thought of keeping it only to Mumbai Diaries instead. However, this was also solved. "They wanted me to change the title. I knew how difficult it was to change the title three days before the film's release but I agreed to do so. But when they saw I would be in a problem, they gave up their objection and let me go with the original name," said Aamir. Khatri, national secretary (youth cell) of Akhil Bharathiya Dhobi Mahasanga, said dhobi being a caste, the name of a film was "really hurting them whenever we saw the posters". "We were of course against the name of the film but were equally inquisitive about what message does the film gives about dhobis. We didn't know about the story. He (Aamir) agreed to show us the film before release and said he would do the necessary changes if we feel that its hurting the dhobi community in any way." "Seeing the film, we realised that the film is about something absolutely different from what we had thought. The film has given respect to the profession of a dhobi so we gave up all our objections," said Khatri.

She didn't want to work with Aamir Khan in " Dhobi Ghat", but once he was on board, first-time director Kiran Rao not only enjoyed working with her husband but also got some valuable tips from him. She is however not sure if she will write a script specially for him, although she says he is a "dream producer". "Aamir told me, 'Don't move on until you've got what you want and once you've got it, don't waste time.' That was his one mantra for me," Kiran told us.  "I would love to work with Aamir again. As of now there is nothing that I have written exclusively for him and to be honest I don't think I can write something keeping him in mind specially. "I can work around an idea that I like, but I can't create something to suit him. So I hope in the future I write something that ultimately suits him," she said.  Released Friday, Kiran's film is a beautifully narrated slice-of-life story and all the actors including Aamir fit into their roles and essays them with such elan that it makes "Dhobi Ghat" a wonderful movie. Talking about working with Aamir, she said: "I had great fun. It's very easy working with Aamir. He is a real support on the set and is very relaxed. At the same time he is very committed and was there whenever I needed him."  So did he try to turn her into a perfectionist like himself? "He doesn't give up until he is satisfied with what he is doing, but I don't think perfection is anything. We can only be the best we can. What drives Aamir is basically his passion for what he does. That makes him pull out everything and I have taken that advice from him," said Kiran, who married Aamir in 2005. The two met during the filming of Aamir's home production venture "Lagaan".  Finally, when asked how she would like to define Aamir as a producer, Kiran revealed: "Aamir is a dream producer. He is a kind of producer, if he likes your script, he would let you do whatever you want to. "He supports you and protects you and budget is also not a big thing. He gives you the freedom to fulfil your vision. I couldn't have found a better producer. I was really lucky to find him." Meanwhile, Aamir Khan, who is known for his diverse roles, says he does only those films that his heart tells him to. "I just go with my heart and go towards scripts that excite me, touch me and move me and which I feel I will be happy doing. I've been lucky that they have been successful," Aamir told us. For the last five years, all his films have been hits, including "Rang De Basanti", " Fanaa", "Taare Zameen Par", " Ghajini" and "3 Idiots".

About Dhobi Ghat movie : Coming Soon

Aamir Khan believes that 'Dhobi Ghat' is the first of its kind in Indian cinema. The quintessential actor also speaks about the endeavours that he makes to be genuine and true to his audience while Kiran Rao speaks about the characters and genre of the film in the first part of their bollywoodhungama.com exclusive interview with Content Head Broadband Faridoon Shahryar. Its a must watch video.

The industry is filled with strange friendships and they, the industrywallas, have their own well meaning way to pay tribute to their friends. Where Farah Khan always has one number in her films where all her friends would come together and dance on, other directors make their friends do a guest appearance; Aamir Khan on the other hand has his own unique way. His friendship with Salman Khan is well known and he has made teasing references to Salman in Jaane Tu... Ya Jane Na and Peepli [LIVE] . Aamir has now made a third one in Dhobi Ghat. And it is in Prateik Babbar's character in the film. Aamir Khan hit headlines with the song 'Pappu Can't Dance Saala' in his film Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na while in Peepli [LIVE] , one of the important characters wears Salman Khan's trademark bracelet. This time, in his wife Kiran Rao's film Dhobi Ghat, Aamir has made Prateik's character in the film a devout Salman Khan fan. Aamir Khan loves Salman as a friend and his films are a proof of that. Prateik is seen wearing the famous Salman Khan bracelet. In the film, he loves working out to build a body like Salman's and he wants to become an actor like him as well. Prateik's character hails from a different city and is a part-time dhobi and a wannabe actor who thinks Salman is a cool dude. Well Aamir, can this Pappu dance?

An Aamir Khan production. Need we say any more? This one is extra-special because Mrs Aamir Khan has directed it and because Aamir plays a stellar role in it. He won't be seen in any film for at least one year now. Go for it. The trailers look strained and pretentious. They are cut in a very European way. Even the music is resonant of European influences. Also, episodic films don't do well in India.

I'm not in the rat race

Actress Deepika Padukone has had a great start to 2011. She took off for a much deserved vacation at the start of the year and brought in her birthday with her parents as she extended her vacation plans. The actress, who is an adrenaline junkie, tried her hand at sky-diving and scuba-diving last year. This year, she plans to fulfill her dream of going bunjee jumping. “I have always wanted to do this and I honesty didn’t think it would happen within a month from each other. Though I am petrified of heights, I have no clue how I managed to do the sky dive. Next up on my list is a bungee jump,” she smiles.

The dimpled beauty who is always pitted against actresses Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif says that being the number one heroine is not the only thing that interests her. “Yes, numbers do make a difference but that is not the only thing that matters. When I am doing a shot, I don’t think about director Vishal Bhardwaj signing me for his next film or if Aamir (Khan) will take me in his next film. When you are doing a scene you are just there, giving your 100%. As long as I am honest to my work, being professional and enjoying my work, everything else will follow. As for reaching the top — everybody aims to be there someday but I am not working only to reach to the top.”

But she certainly can be one of the top heroines endorsing a lot of products. Padukone, who is the face of a lot of brands, says she only endorses brands that she either uses or likes. “For me, the first criteria is the credibility of a brand. It has to be something I identify with and believe in,” she ends.
