Dancing With the Stars 2011 Winner : Kirstie Alley’s final performances (Video)

Dancing With the Stars 2011 Winner : Kirstie Alley’s final performances (Video)

The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver had fans cheering and black-and-gold towels waving as he samba-ed his way to a victory as the season 12 winner of "Dancing with the Stars" ahead of fellow finalists Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane.
"Starting this competition, I never thought I'd make it to the finals," the always-humble NFL player said upon being named winner. "I owe it all to Kym, who's the most amazing teacher."
Ward, who originally performed the high-energy samba during "personal story" week, dedicated his dance to his mother, who sat front-row in the audience during the finale dances.
"Mr. Irresistible" ran up to give his proud mom a peck on the cheek, which she brushed away, to the glee of the football star and the crowd.

"Hines, in all honestly, you're the MVP of 'Dancing with the Stars,'" judge Carrie Ann gushed. "You're nothing but consistency and focus ... you really dance with heart."
Outspoken Bruno appeared equally smitten by Ward's charms on the dance floor.
"You're a killer when you play your sport, and a charming dazzler on the dance floor," he said earnestly. "We all fall in love."
Ward and Johnson, who wowed the judges consistently throughout the season with their infectious energy and noticeable chemistry, were favorites going into the finals, though they faced stiff competition from Alley and Kane.
"Kirstie, you're like a phoenix," Bruno said of the actress' physical and technical transformation throughout the season. "You cheating girl, you saved the best for last!"
Even the usually stoic Len admitted that runner-up Kirstie had "overcome setbacks, improved weaknesses" and ultimately "produced [her] best dance yet."
Disney star Kane, who took home third place, was visibly upset by her early ouster, but the judges remained big fans of the bubbly actress.
"A lot of people may not have known who you are," Carrie Ann began, "but performances like this are why everyone will know who you are now. You're a very talented, artistic, beautiful, graceful woman."

Gabriella Pasqualotto Mumbai Cheerleader girl blog

South African cheerleader, IPL Mumbai team, Gabriella Pasqualotto was posting secretly blogging about the fun and flirting that take in post match parties. Pasqualotto had written that some players and celebrity sponsors treat grils like “like pieces of meat”.

In her blog, she claimed that the Aussies were “naughty”, one of them playing “kissing catches” with some of the girls despite his girlfriend waiting at home for him, while “Ol’ Graeme Smith will flirt with anything while his girlfriend walks behind him”.

“Usually only after day matches there is an exclusive after party and at night is when it all happens. The music pumps, the drinks flow and the cricketers come and go. We mingle and associate with important people of the IPL wearing their finest and sexiest, sponsors of all sorts, media and fashion shows, even Indian MTV! But the real fun happens in the VIP rooms where the players and night owls can cause scandal! The few Indian players we have met, such as MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have been very polite and keep to themselves in the dark corners. Hotshots like Tendulkar with families at home are never present. The likes of Jonty Rhodes and Albie Morkel are notorious for having a good time with friends!

In her blog has also written that Gabriella Pasqualott: MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have been very polite and keep to themselves in the dark corners. Hotshots like Tendulkar with families at home are never present. The likes of Jonty Rhodes and Albie Morkel are notorious for having a good time with friends!

BEFORE departing for India, I had friends and family passing on travel tips, advice and personal experiences. Some of it good, and some of it worrying. As this was my first trip overseas, I needed to take it all in. But with any challenge in life, I like to have an open heart, clear head and positive attitude. This was not just a holiday abroad, this was a job and nobody could prepare me to become a cricket-loving, cheerleading, IPL girl but me!

Already three weeks have passed and in that time I cannot believe how a group of normal girls can become instant celebrities! Each team of ten girls has a manager and we all receive strict instructions from them about safety, behaviour and reputation, as it seems girls from previous years did not heed the rule book!

For example, if people ask why we are in their country, we have to say that we are friends on holiday. The majority of Indians are cricket crazy, glued to their televisions, reading the papers, supporting their teams. So as the tournament kicked off, it became pretty obvious we were not telling the truth!

On our days off, we are free to explore and take in what India has to offer but its not always easy. You can just imagine, a group of fit, easy on the eye, western ladies cruising the congested busy streets…

To the citizens, we are practically like walking porn! All eyes are on you all the time; it is complete voyeurism. The women double take, see you and then pretend you do not exist. The men see your face, then your boobs, your butt, and then your boobs again! As we walk, all you hear is “IPL, IPL!” with a little head jingle!

Usually only after day matches there is an exclusive after party and at night is when it all happens. The music pumps, the drinks flow and the cricketers come and go. We mingle and associate with important people of the IPL wearing their finest and sexiest, sponsors of all sorts, media and fashion shows, even Indian MTV! But the real fun

‘Ol Graeme Smith will flirt with anything while his girlfriend lurks behind him. The Aussies are fun but naughty, such as Aiden Blizzard and Dan Christian. By the end of a crazy evening, a certain someone had played kissing catchers with three girls known to me only, although he has his own girlfriend back home. He cooed to each girl, “Come home with me, I just want to cuddle!’

I have come to realise that cricketers are the most loose and mischievious sportsmen I have come across. Makes me wonder if I should worry about them more then the commoners on the street! I still have a long while here, so I shall keep my tip list in mind.

Mississippi River Reaches Record High

There's a reason they call it the "Mighty" Mississippi: As heavy rains pound the river's basin and drive water levels above their record heights, the mayor of Memphis has warned city residents to prepare for a possible "large-scale disaster." Officials have begun building sandbag buffers around the city and raised levees where water levels have climbed to dangerous heights. Thousands have evacuated the city, leaving their homes behind to live in tents and campers at higher grounds. One woman showed CBS News correspondent Mark Strassman photos of her submerged home north of Memphis. "What's next? We've never had anything like this. We've lost crops to the water. We've never lost a house," she said. Things haven't been worse since the Mississippi flood in 1927, the most destructive in U.S. history, after which engineers built a system of levees and reservoirs that protect some four million people today. But that system is certainly being tested. The river is expected to crest next Wednesday at 48 feet.

Mississippi State sweeps Vols, wins 5-2

In all, the Volunteers were 1-for-17 with runners on base and 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position on Sunday. They will return to the diamond at 7 p.m. on Tuesday to host the opener of a home-and-home midweek series against Middle Tennessee State. UT will travel to Murfreesboro on Wednesday.

“Our kids played hard,” UT Head Coach Todd Raleigh said. “As a coach, that’s all you can ask for. I thought we put ourselves in a position to win. I’m proud of the way they played. I thought we were ready. We just needed that one hit to clear the bases. (Mississippi State) made a great play with two outs in the sixth, but we have to overcome that. We just try to keep teaching and helping them learn the game as much as we possibly can. It’s not like they aren’t trying. They are playing hard. You saw (Khayyan) diving all over the field and our pitchers were battling out there. We never gave up. We had a chance even at the end with the tying run (at the plate) in the ninth.”

Senior Khayyan Norfork and junior Davis Morgan each had a pair of hits for the Big Orange, while senior Matt Duffy added his 11th double of the season. Senior Rob Catapano (2-5) suffered the loss for the Vols after battling through 4.2 innings in which he allowed three runs on four hits and five walks. Chris Stratton (5-5) picked up the win for the Bulldogs, striking out nine and yielding two runs on six hits in 5.2 frames of work. Caleb Reed recorded his ninth save with 3.1 scoreless innings and five strikeouts out of the bullpen.

No. 7 Georgia powers past Mississippi State

Seventh-ranked Georgia hit four, two-out home runs en route to defeating Mississippi State, 10-2, in five innings on Sunday afternoon in front of a Jack Turner Stadium crowd of 1,311.

JJunior Brittney Hubbard (3-for-3) provided Georgia (44-10, 17-9 Southeastern Conference) with two of the four home runs, a solo shot in the second and two-run blast in the third. Two batters before Hubbard’s two-run homer, junior Ashley Razey drilled a three-run homer. The fourth home run of the game for UGA was also of the two-run variety off of the bat of senior Brianna Hesson (2-for-3) in the fourth. All four home runs were to left field and all four came with two outs.

Sunday’s win over Mississippi State (24-31, 10-18 SEC) provided Georgia with the series victory two games to one. MSU won the opener on Friday 8-6, but UGA took game two on Saturday, 4-3, before winning the finale.

The series with MSU also concluded regular season SEC play for UGA, who clinched the No. 5 seed in the SEC Tournament set for May 12-14 in Oxford, Miss. Georgia’s first game in the league tournament will come against fourth-seeded LSU on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET.

In Sunday’s victory, Hubbard’s solo home run in the second gave UGA a 1-0 lead. However, in the top of the third, Mississippi State’s Briana Bell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game at 1-1.

Georgia quickly rebounded with five runs in the third to regain the lead at 6-1. With senior Megan Wiggins and Hesson aboard on a walk and a single, respectively, Razey clubbed her 11th home run of the season. Two batters later after junior Kristyn Sandberg was hit by a pitch, Hubbard’s two-run blast went out over the scoreboard in left and ended the game for MSU starter Stephanie Becker, who took the loss to fall to 7-10. For Hubbard, the two home runs were her fifth and sixth of the year.

Japan's Akira Kurosawa has influenced other moviemakers for decades

How do you know when you have stumbled into a dangerous part of town? A few broken windows? Stares from unfriendly locals, perhaps? How about seeing a dog carrying a severed human hand? That was the way the Japanese auteur, Akira Kurosawa, chose to warn us that his protagonist was entering a lawless and violent place in the opening minutes of Yojimbo (Bodyguard).

The black-and-white classic, which turned 50 last week, sees a ronin (masterless samurai, played to perfection by the Kurosawa regular Toshiro Mifune) offering his services to two rival crime bosses in the feudal village. Rather than fulfilling his role as faithful servant, however, he becomes "the bodyguard who kills the bodies he's hired to guard," as the renowned film critic Pauline Kael once put it.

Constantly twitching and chewing on a toothpick, the roving sword-for-hire clearly enjoys dispatching his foes and accomplishes his aim with overwhelming zeal. Before long, he brings the whole rotten edifice crashing to the ground with his wily double-crossings.

While pets snacking on their masters' appendages and samurai sword fights aplenty might suggest the film would be best reserved for fans of gore, most of Yojimbo's violence actually happens off-screen and the movie is intended as a black comedy.

Although not as revolutionary as Kurosawa's breakout movie, 1950's Rashomon, and not as widely loved as the sweeping 1954 film, Seven Samurai, Yojimbo saw the director at his genre-bending finest and provided a story that would continue to resonate in international cinema for decades.

Change your KLM frequent flyer card for a Lufthansa one

A very smart marketing idea from Lufthansa: If you are a KLM frequent flyer you can get a Lufthansa frequent flyer card at the same level in their Miles & More program. Or actually you can get an even better deal, because both KLM Gold and Platinum card holders are eligible for a Lufthansa Senator card. And you will keep your status until February 2013!

The only thing you need to do is book one return flight on Lufthansa or one its European partners, fill out a form and upload a copy of your KLM Flying Blue card.

Despite flying way too much I was downgraded from Platinum to Gold in the KLM program last year. KLM is incredibly stingy with their miles, only for full fare trips you get normal points. And of course I always try to avoid full fare flights, I prefer non-changeable non-reroutable economy or economy plus fares and then upgrade myself with points to business class (I still have over 800,000 frequent flyer miles that I can use).

So I might consider taking Lufthansa’s offer. On the other hand, I already have frequent flyer cards from 2 other Star Alliance members (Singapore Airlines and United Airlines). And for the United one I am just one or two flights away from their Premier Executive status, so the Lufthansa card doesn’t add much value for me.

But if you are a KLM Flying Blue member without a Star Alliance card you should certainly consider this offer. It’s really smart marketing and I think it might convince a lot of frequent flyers to change from KLM-Air France to Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners. If I would be KLM I would immediately offer all Miles & More flyers the same benefits. Smart marketing Lufthansa!

Muslims, Christians Clash In Cairo, Egypt After Mob Burns Church

Hundreds of Christians and Muslims hurled stones at each other in downtown Cairo on Sunday, hours after Muslim mobs set fire to a church and a Christian-owned apartment building in a frenzy of violence that killed 12 people and injured more than 200.

The deepening religious violence in military-ruled Egypt is exacerbating the lawlessness and disorder of the country's bumpy transition to democracy after three decades of autocratic rule under former President Hosni Mubarak was brought to an end in February.

Muslim youths attacked a large crowd of Coptic Christian protesters marching from the headquarters of Egypt's general prosecutor to the state television building overlooking the Nile, said Christian activist Bishoy Tamri. TV images showed both sides furiously throwing stones, including one Christian who held a large wooden cross in one hand while flinging rocks with another.

Scores were injured, but an army unit securing the TV building did nothing to stop the violence, Tamri said.

Hours earlier, mobs of ultraconservative Muslims attacked the Virgin Mary Church in the slum of Imbaba on the opposite side of the Nile. The attack was fueled by rumors that a Christian woman married to a Muslim man had been abducted by the church. Residents said a separate mob of youths armed with knives and machetes attacked an apartment building several blocks away with firebombs.

"People were scared to come near them," said resident Adel Mohammed, 29, who lives near the Virgin Mary Church. "They looked scary. They threw their firebombs at the church and set parts of it ablaze."

The military deployed armored vehicles and dozens of troop carriers to cordon off a main street leading to the area. They halted traffic and turned away pedestrians. Men, women and children watching from balconies took photos with mobile phones and cheered the troops.

Islamic clerics denounced the violence, sounding alarm bells at the escalating tension during the transitional period following Mubarak's Feb. 11 ouster by a popular uprising.

"These events do not benefit either Muslim or Copts," Ahmed al-Tayyeb, the sheik of al-Azhar, told the daily Al-Ahram.

Interfaith relationships are taboo in Egypt, where the Muslim majority and sizable Christian minority are both largely conservative. Such relationships are often the source of deadly clashes between the faiths.

During the 18-day uprising that ousted Mubarak, there was a rare spirit of brotherhood between Muslims and Christians. Each group protected the other during prayer sessions in Cairo's Tahrir Square, the epicenter of the revolution.

But in the months that followed, there has been a sharp rise in sectarian tensions, fueled in part by a movement of ultraconservative Muslims known as Salafis who have become more active in Egypt.

Man Sentenced To Life In Prison After Fourth Marijuana Conviction

A single such conviction on the north shore landed the 35-year-old in prison for the rest of his life.

State Judge Raymond S. Childress punished Hood under Louisiana's repeat-offender law in his courtroom in Covington on Thursday. A jury on Feb. 15 found the defendant guilty of attempting to possess and distribute marijuana at his Slidell home, court records show.

Hood moved from eastern New Orleans to the Slidell area after he admitted to separate charges of distribution of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana on Dec. 18, 2009, in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court. He received a suspended five-year prison sentence and five years' of probation for each -- which was precisely the same penalty he got in that court after pleading guilty to possessing and intending to distribute marijuana on Feb. 22, 2005.

When Hood switched homes, he also requested a new probation officer based in St. Tammany. Authorities granted the wish, and the officer, Dustin Munlin, drove to Hood's place for a routine visit on Sept. 27, 2010.

Munlin found nearly two pounds of pot throughout the house, according to court records. He alerted Sheriff's Office deputies. They arrested Hood, who apparently shared the King's Point house with his mother and young son.

Prosecutors later charged him with one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

At Hood's one-day trial, the evidence presented by the prosecution included a digital scale and about a dozen bags that had contained marijuana before being seized from the house, testimony showed. Deputies also found $1,600 in cash and a student-loan application with Hood's name on it inside of a night stand.

Jurors deliberated for less than two hours and convicted Hood of a reduced charge, which usually carries no more than 15 years' imprisonment. Assistant District Attorney Nick Noriea Jr. then used Hood's past convictions on Thursday to argue that he was a career criminal worthy of a severe punishment.

Drug offenders in the state are subject to life imprisonment after being convicted three or more times of a crime that carries a sentence exceeding 10 years.

Tamilnadu State Board (HSC) 12th Result 2011 Today

School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu had earlier announced that the results of (HSC - Plus Two) Class 12 Board Examinations in which more than 8 lakh students participated would be declared today i.e. May 9,2011. These results can be checked on the various results portals of Tamil Nadu, when declared, or students can send the SMS to 56263 after typing RESULT(space)TN12(space)REGISTRATION NO. to check the results via mobile.

Students are expected to do well in chemistry and biology as the test was easier than that of last year where as physics question paper was tough compared to the previous year. Maths question paper contained the typographical errors which created the confusion among the students due to which 3 to 25 extra marks for some of the questions would be provided to students depending on their respective answer sheets.

Education board has taken this initiative this year to declare the results as soon as possible to give enough time to students and parents to think over the right higher education courses as per the results secured by students as there is no common entrance test in Tamil Nadu for admission into the professional courses like engineering and medicine.

Panda vs. Peacock: Animal Chase At Zoo In China (VIDEO)

In this video featured on The Today Show, a panda at a zoo in China's Hubei Province chases a peacock that had hopped the wall from a nearby cage.

According to the report, when a panda is happy, it is more likely to engage in a chase, and thus, as anchor Dara Brown says, "the peacock was unlucky to find the panda in a happy mood."

What this clip fails to show is just how unlucky the peacock was -- the panda actually killed the peacock, according to The Telegraph. That missing detail makes this cute video turn dark quite quickly.

Explosions Rock Town Where Osama Bin Laden Was Killed

ABBOTTABAD, Pakistan -- Witnesses say two loud explosions have rocked the Pakistani town where Osama bin Laden was killed in a U.S. raid.

The source of the blasts was not immediately clear. An Associated Press team at the compound where bin Laden was living before the April 29 raid saw no signs of unusual activity Sunday.

There had been speculation that authorities might demolish the house in Abbottabad to try to stop the intense media attention on the town.

Nadal's Phenomenal Through-The-Legs Winner

Despite losing to Novak Djokovic in the Madrid Open Final on Sunday, Rafael Nadal made the highlight of the match with a through-the-legs winner.

In the second set, Djokovic hit a soft lob over the head of Nadal and sent him sprinting to the baseline. The Spaniard chased down the ball and hit a between-the-legs lob winner.

It's not the first time that Djokovic has come up on the losing end of highlights like this one. Roger Federer nailed a jaw-dropping through-the-legs-shot against Djokovic in the 2009 U.S. Open.

Senator demands immediate action to curb Mecca odors

Sen. Barbara Boxer is demanding that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency act immediately to protect Mecca residents from strong chemical odors that have been blamed for illnesses in the rural Coachella Valley community.

In a May 5 letter to EPA administrator Lisa Jackson, the California Democrat asked that Jackson personally intervene to help families "living in unbearable conditions caused by the horrendous odors."

Last week, EPA officials announced at a public meeting in Mecca that the agency is investigating Western Environmental Inc., a contaminated-soil recycling plant on the community's north side, for possible violation of federal hazardous waste regulations. Many Mecca residents blame the plant for the odors.

The EPA took 80 samples from the open-air plant, and one contained trace amounts of PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls, a toxic substance. The concentration was too low to constitute a federal violation, but the EPA plans to investigate further by reviewing company records, said Amy Miller, hazardous waste enforcement manager for the EPA's Southern Pacific region.

Thor Review: Good God, Y'all

thor-movie (1).jpg

Kenneth Branagh’s Thor faces one of the most difficult challenges among the Avengers origin stories. It’s not the most accessible of stories, which is saying something when we’re talking about a universe consisting of men turning into ornery not-very-jolly green giants and pew! pew! rocketpack tin men. Yet all of those are somehow based on science, and in the universe we know. Thor’s character was always one of the more peculiar in comic books — a character born from ancient history and mythology, and inexplicably thrust into this new world of science and aliens and monsters.

And yet, Thor is a surprisingly enjoyable experience, for the fanboy and the casual viewer alike. I say this because I am, as many of you know, something of a fanboy myself, and I saw it with my wife, who is… well, not. And yet there was much to praise about Thor, even if there are some glaring stumbling blocks. The story, if you haven’t gleaned it from the dozen or so trailers that have been bombarding us for these past months, is this: Thor (Chris Hemsworth), God of Thunder, is tossed out of Asgard for going against his father Odin’s (Anthony Hopkins) wishes and breaking the truce against their ancient enemies, the frost giants, led by Laufey (Colm Feore). On Earth, Thor loses his power, encounters the lovely Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), clashes with agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and tries to find his way home. All the while,Thor’s wicked brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) plots behind the scenes to try to usurp the throne of Asgard.

Yeah. It’s the kind of material that when written out like that, looks utterly ridiculous. And to a certain extent, it is — there’s no denying that some of the scenes in Asgard felt stilted and a tad too melodramatic. I found the parts on Earth, even though they fell victim to some of the classic culture shock tropes, to be frequently more engaging. But Branagh handles the overall arc with surprising deftness and nuance, and made an exciting, boisterous worlds-colliding story. The pacing awkward at times; in many ways, it’s paced similarly to the first Iron Man film — giant kaboom! battle to give you some sense of origin and time and place (in this case, a raucous, fierce battle between Thor and his companions as they square off against the frost giants). Then followed by an extended period of exposition, establishing supporting characters, the interruption created by S.H.I.E.L.D., where there’s little action and a great deal of dialogue. Followed by the revelation of the betrayer, and then a final battle that felt… like a bit of a letdown. Thor’s final battle with his brother Loki, as well as the preceding battle in the streets of small town New Mexico with the ominous Destroyer, felt rushed and somewhat unsatisfying.

Yet despite a less-than inspiring finale, Branagh succeeded in making the characters feel real and likable. Hemsworth certainly has the look for the Odinson, and he slips into the role with an easy sense of confidence and charismatic braggadocio. It’s not small task, given how painful his dialogue felt at times — that’s no fault of his or Branagh’s, it’s simply the consequence of taking an ancient Norse god and sticking him in New Mexico. At the same time, Portman has a delightful chemistry with him. She tones down her manic dream pixie girl shtick a good bit, and manages to convey the sense of a slightly awkward, brainy, and dedicated character who is looking for magic in her world of science, even if she may not realize it. The interaction between the two is easygoing and surprisingly charming, in fact.

As for the supporting cast, they all perform their jobs with aplomb. Hopkins can play a character like Odin in his sleep, all kingly gravitas and somber proclamations of wisdom. Stellan Skarsgard thankfully avoids drifting into his rasping melodramatic nutball role (see also: Deep Blue Sea, King Arthur) as Professor Selvig, Jane’s mentor. Tom Hiddleston is, I’m pleased to admit, goddamned perfect as the embittered trickster Loki, full of envy and venom and tragic jealousy. Coupled with the valiant efforts of Thor’s friend Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and the Warriors Three (Ray Stevenson, Joshua Dallas and Tadanobu Asano), not to mention the fierce gatekeeper Heimdall (Idris Elba), it’s all so flowery and full of Shakespearean melodrama that it almost collapses, but their breezy portrayals make it far more enjoyable than expected.

Branagh is mostly able to bind it all together through a clever interweaving of scenes between here and Asgard, never lingering on one long enough for it to become stale. There are cheerful injections of humor to keep things upbeat, and the wry, smirking Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) who has been subtly lighting it up in all of the pre-Avengers movies so far provides yet another layer of enjoyment. I will admit that there were times when the dialogue got a bit, well… boring, unfortunately, and some of the meaningful scenes between Thor and Jane ended up dragging painfully, despite their strong chemistry.

If it sounds like I disliked the film, that’s far from the truth. It’s a rousing good time, unquestionably, and Hemsworth is such an affable, blustery fellow that it’s hard not to grin at his earnest performance. The film’s effects were impressively done, and the realm of Asgard manages to be gorgeous and almost heavenly, while still feeling sufficiently alien that it captures the idea that the film makers were going for — perhaps they’re not gods, but simply creatures from another world or dimension that we never recognized for what they are. The film is an odd juxtaposition of dense, antiquated dialogue and fast-paced, punchy action. It works, for the most part, even if the action at times leaves the audience wanting more. Oh, and unsurprisingly, the post-production 3D effects were barely even noticeable and a complete waste.

Most importantly, the handling of Thor when he’s smashing his way through his enemies, hammer swinging and cape flying, feels just right — like the comic book was indeed coming to life. The film is of course replete with little comic book references for the fans — mention of other characters, sightings of icons and items that resonate through comic book lore, and of course a preview of a fellow Avenger to come is especially enjoyable, even if only for a quick few minutes. And, as always, stay until the end folks.

Looking back, Thor felt good, though not great. It was an enjoyable couple of hours that sometimes stumbled, sometimes soared, and sometimes simply felt a little flat. It’s bolstered by a group of amiable, skilled actors and some interesting, if somewhat simplistic, examinations of the line between magic and science. But perhaps most importantly, it takes Thor and makes him feel like a viable character within this new universe, a super-powered, hammer-swinging creature of legend brought to life through a combination of technology and sorcery. It brings him into the world of scientifically bred heroes and shows that he has a place there, and it does so with charm and style. And some kickass hammering.

Pakistani Officials Have No Record Of Man Killed With Bin Laden

The man known to his neighbors in the Bilal Town district of Abbottabad as Arshad Khan was said to have built the large compound in which Osama bin Laden was living in 2005 after acquiring several smaller plots of land.

The man known to his neighbors in the Bilal Town district of Abbottabad as Arshad Khan was said to have built the large compound in which Osama bin Laden was living in 2005 after acquiring several smaller plots of land.

May 06, 2011
CHARSADDA, Pakistan -- Pakistani officials say they have no record of the man said to be the owner of the compound in which Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed this week, RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal reports.

The identification card of Arshad Khan was found on one of the four men killed along with bin Laden by U.S. Special Operations Forces in the compound in the northern Pakistani city of Abbottabad on May 2.

Arshad Khan was also listed in official documents as the owner of the property.

But Pakistani officials say they can find no trace of a man by that name or the village listed on his ID card as his hometown.

Some analysts believe Arshad Khan was a nom de guerre or fake identity for Abu Ahmad al-Kuwaiti, the name of the bin Laden courier who was allegedly followed by U.S. secret services and ultimately led them to bin Laden.

Pakistani officials say Khan's ID card shows him to be a resident of Tangi Pass in the Charsadda district, an agricultural region close to Peshawar, the capital of the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

But an official in the Charsadda branch of the National Database and Registration Authority told RFE/RL there was no record of an Arshad Khan who was listed on the ID card as being the son of one Naqib Khan.

Charsadda official Fazl-e Maula, who is based in the town of Tangi, told RFE/RL there also was no village in the region called Tangi Pass. Maula said he had been based in the area for the past two years establishing the identity of locals.

"I have no knowledge of a place called [Tangi] Pass. We have never had any complaints from such a locale or anything happening there," Maula said.

"I have signed and [verified] many identity cards, which is part of my routine work. And I always verify the identity of applicants by going to people who know them but I have never heard of [Tangi] Pass."

Other locals told RFE/RL they had also never heard of a place called Tangi Pass.

Ehsan Shah, head of the police precinct in Tangi, said the police's attempt to establish the identity of Arshad Khan had been unsuccessful.

"We have thoroughly combed the whole of Tangi but have not been able to trace anybody with that identity," he said.

To his neighbors in Bilal Town, the Abbottabad neighborhood where bin Laden was killed on May 2, the man known as Arshad Khan was described as a robust man in his 30s or 40s.

He was said to have built the large compound in which bin Laden was living in 2005 after acquiring several smaller plots of land.

YEAR LATER: Family haunted by Corona golfer's death

It was Mother's Day, so Debbie Blasberg was at San Juan Hills Golf Club.

For six years, she'd made a personal tradition of playing the course nestled in the San Juan Capistrano hills, taking advantage of the free round offered as a special thank you to mom golfers like herself.

She always liked the course, and she was in good company, in fine spirits; all was well, except that she finished her round without hearing from her daughter.

Understandable, considering Erica was scheduled to be getting settled in preparation for that week's Ladies Professional Golf Association tournament in Alabama, but still, it felt odd.

Regardless of where in the country she might have been playing, Erica always called during Debbie's Mother's Day round. "Like clockwork," Debbie said.

Erica always was that kind of kid, considerate, thoughtful, dropping by with breakfast burritos or doughnuts, doting on her mom with handbags or flowers.

Debbie felt uneasy when she still hadn't heard from Erica by the time she retired early that evening. "I hope everything's OK," she remembers thinking.

Her budding concern was alleviated when she awoke the next morning and saw she had a voice mail.

Army Tanks Enter Syrian Flashpoint City Banias -- Activists

May 07, 2011
Syrian army units stormed into the city of Banias with tanks overnight, attacking the districts that had defied the rule of President Bashar al-Assad.

Human rights activists say the units entered the city on the night of May 6-May 7 from three directions.

Electricity and communications were cut as the tanks entered the southern sector of the city on the Mediterranean coast, the bastion of the protesters.

Meanwhile, the White House has warned that the United States and its international partners will take what it calls "additional steps" against the Syrian regime unless its security forces stop killing and harassing pro-reform protesters.

The statement was released after at least 26 people were reported killed by Syrian security forces on May 6.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said in a statement that "the United States believes that Syria's deplorable actions toward its people warrant a strong international response."

It said that unless there is change, the U.S. and its partners would take further measures to make clear their "strong opposition to the Syrian government's treatment of its people."

Human rights groups say more than 580 civilians have been killed by security forces and thousands of people injured or arrested during the past seven weeks of demonstrations against the Syrian regime.

This week's theme provides a sobering antidote to too much wedding fizz: is there a nice song for a decree nisi?

Last week we considered songs about weddings. With indecent haste we now ask you for songs about the end of the affair.

Breaking up is hard to do. But sometimes, it's also the right thing to do. It's an often bitter and bloody time, but it can also be one of renewal, a triumphant moment of independence and a celebration of personal freedom.

So let's hear some anthems for the decoupled, the freshly liberated exes.

'Glee': Hear the 'Prom Queen' Songs

It's finally here: McKinley High's prom! What can viewers expect from the 'Glee' prom episode? Lots of drama, a very popular Adele song, ABBA and, oh, did we mention drama?!

Jesse and Rachel perform a duet of Adele's 'Rolling in the Deep,' and Mercedes and Santana take the leads on ABBA's 'Dancing Queen.'

Blaine, with help from Tina and Brittany sing Black Kids' 'I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You,' Artie sings Stevie Wonder's 'Isn't She Lovely' and Rachel gets a solo on Christina Perri's 'Jar of Hearts.'

Be on the lookout for the boys to sing Rebecca Black's Internet hit 'Friday.'

So-so songs let down Little Women

If you read Little Women when you were a girl -and yes, you're definitely a girl if you did -you'll get why showbiz has long wanted to get its mitts on Louisa May Alcott's much-loved 1868 novel about the March sisters of Concord, Mass.

Devoted single parent, trying circumstances (genteel poverty, the Civil War), sisterly bonding and friction, coming-of-age romance, youthful dreams, a good-die-young death scene. . C'mon, the showbiz possibilities are, to borrow a song from Marmee, "days of plenty."

The version of Little Women now onstage in a deluxe Citadel production may not have been a success on Broadway, where it ran, briefly, in 2005. But it's Broadway through and through.

The creators -Allan Knee (book), Mindi Dickstein (lyrics), Jason Howland (music) -wrangle the material into the time-honoured configuration by framing it as a star is born. And Bob Baker's production even has the star to prove it, in the charismatic person of Shannon Taylor as Jo.

A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra 'My Way'

More nightclub show than theater, My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra is two hours of pure entertainment. There are no big thoughts to think, no complex plot to follow. Just a slew of great songs, sung by four talented performers, accompanied by two terrific musicians, with a bar in the lobby and a vaguely loungey atmosphere in the audience seating. What's not to enjoy?

When asked what the key to his success was, Ol' Blue Eyes replied, "Sing good songs." Sinatra recorded 1,300 - most of them better than good. Although the My Way cast members pay tribute to the famous style - the rakish hat, the jacket slung over a shoulder - they don't try to imitate him. Fran Prisco directs with a sure sense of how to create glitzy show biz on the small stage of the Walnut's Independence Studio on 3.

The four singers are appealingly different types. Prisco is the white guy: A short, suave (this should probably be pronounced "swayve") pro who can make his lines sound like effortless ad libs and knows how to belt out a song. Carl Clemons-Hopkins is the black guy: Young, very tall (there's a running gag about the height of the mike), with a smooth, sexy style.

Mark Cavendish realistic about his chances in gruelling Giro d'Italia

Mark Cavendish posted a picture of the profile of this year's Giro d'Italia on his Twitter feed on Friday with a suitably pithy comment. He had good reason: of the 21 stages only five are without a major climb, where he will be able to use his sprinting skills to the full as he attempts to add to his career tally of five stage wins in the first major tour of the cycling year.

"It's one of the toughest Tours of Italy ever and I don't want to ride myself into a box before the Tour de France," Cavendish said this week. "I'll have to take every stage as it comes. For me, as in every grand tour, my goal is to take at least one stage win, because if you don't you've failed."

Today's time trial ending in Turin will suit Cavendish and his HTC team, but what follows is the hardest Giro in recent years, with eight mountain-top finishes. The route looks ideal for the triple Tour de France winner Alberto Contador, who intends to attempt a rare double of Giro and Tour wins this year, but, with a final decision over his positive test for clenbuterol expected at the court of arbitration for sport in June, this Giro could end up being decided by the lawyers.

It would be a surprise if Cavendish is still at the Giro for the mountainous final week. The last stage he can target is in Ravenna, 10 days from the finish and he is down to race the Tour of Switzerland, Tour de France and Tour of Spain later this season. The chances are he will call time on the Giro before the final showdown, but before then he will have to seize his chances.

The Manxman has won only two races so far this season – although one was the prestigious Scheldeprijs in Belgium – and he needs more. A decent Giro will propel him towards the Tour de France in confident mood. As he said this week: "If you're creeping here in May, you won't be flying in July."

The Giro and Tour are more important than ever for Cavendish this year, as he needs to push Great Britain up the world rankings before the end of July, to qualify a full team for the World Championships in Copenhagen in September.

armin-Cervelo is gunning for the pink jersey in Saturday’s team time trial to open the Giro d’Italia with hopes of repeating their breakout success in 2008.

That year’s Giro win that put Christian Vande Velde into the pink jersey as just the second American to ever lead the Giro was a huge success for Garmin. Now, four years later, Garmin is one of the established teams in the peloton and comes to the Giro intent on making its presence felt from Torino to Milano. Garmin confirmed its Giro nine that includes Americans Tyler Farrar, Tom Peterson and Peter Stetina with David Millar on the hunt for stages and Christophe Le Mevel for their GC hopes.

“The 2008 Giro was very important for the team, to win the opening stage and gain the pink jersey,” said Garmin-Cervelo sport director Lionel Marie. “We expect to be among the favorites for Saturday. We made some training today with the riders and everyone is very motivated. We have Millar as our anchor rider and guys like Lancester and (Cameron) Meyer will be very fast.”

Marie said Le Mevel will be hoping to finish among the top 10 when the Giro ends in Milano while Farrar and Millar will be riding for stage wins.

“Tyler likes the Giro because the course suits him well. We have a strong team to help in the sprints and we can hope to win one or two stages with him. It’s a very hard Giro this year and there are not many chances for the sprinters. They will all come in the first week, so it will be very intense competition among the sprinters,” Marie said. “Tyler rode the Tour of Turkey to get back into the rhythm of racing. He was resting after Roubaix and comes to the Giro feeling very strong. Millar will also be looking to ride into breakaways and to try to win a stage. He is very ambitious and wants to do something big in the Giro this year.”

Marie said Peterson will be one of the key helpers for Le Mevel in the second half of the Giro while Stetina makes his grand tour debut with the goal of doing what he can for the team and reaching Milano.

You Think Pitching Your Startup Idea Is Hard? Watch These Kids Do It

Around eighty entrepreneur hopefuls gathered at NASA AMES last week to pitch their ideas for breakthrough technological products, with the hopes of gaining the funding to make their dreams a reality. But this wasn’t part of the application process for a new fangled startup accelerator program, and the teams weren’t comprised of Valley visionairies in their 20s and 30s but rather high school kids between the ages of 14-18.

To compete in the Conrad Foundation’s Spirit of Innovation Awards, each team of high schoolers had to create a business plan, technical report, graphical representation and elevator pitch for their product, presenting their invention to a panel of judges for 10 minutes. All in all 27 finalists competed in the Aerospace, Clean Energy and Cyber security categories to win $5,000 and the community support and mentorship to develop their product commercially.

While their peers were pitching on stage, I interviewed ten of the most promising teams about their product vision, what it was like to be so ambitious at young age and their thoughts about young entrepreneurship. Three of our interviewed teams went on to win the competition (Unisecurity, Ouroboros and West Philly EVX Team) but every participant won in the long run as they got to spend four days at NASA surrounded by other nerdy kids excited about changing the world.

From Ouroboros (a team focused on a “perpetual nutrition system” or a mechanism that would turn organic human waste into compost that can be used to grow crops) to S.A.R.A. (a mobile app designed to stop sexual assault by notifying the police as well as gathering evidence when a victim activated it by using a safeword) the level of professionalism and passion exhibited by these students was impressive.

And more importantly, none of their ideas was on this list of startup ideas destined to fail. Hooray for the future.

(Green B.A.C.O.N, in the video above, wants to use natural sunlight to reduce lighting costs.)

Ouroboros is a composting system for human waste.

UniSecurity wants to create a smartphone app that acts as a heart rate monitor for the elderly or others with cardiac issues, reacting to heart rate irregularities by alerting emergency contacts if there’s an issue.

West Philly EVX Team actually built a light weight, market ready electric car.

Lennox Aerospace wants to build a space scaffolding structure designed to provide astronauts with privacy.

Anwar Al-Awlaki: 9/11 Was An 'Accident' [VIDEO]

Anwar al-Awlaki, the U.S.-born radical cleric who was reportedly targeted this week by an American drone missile, called the September 11, 2001 attacks "an accident" just two days after they occurred.

Al-Awalaki spoke on camera to a local television station on September 13.

"The mosque has been shut down, since the day of the accident," he said.

Al-Awlaki, who was born in New Mexico, was the Imam at the Dar Al Hijrah Mosque in Virginia, which had been vandalized at the time.

"We are now working on providing enough security so that we can meet with our community," he said.

U.S. Federal officials believe he is the man behind a failed Christmas day "underwear bomber" Umar Farouk Abdulmtallab's attempt to destroy an American airliner.

A U.S. military drone fired a missile within two days in Yemen aimed at al-Awlaki, but did not appear to have killed him, a U.S. official told CNN.

The targeting information was not obtained from intelligence gathered from Osama bin Laden's compound last Sunday, according to the report.

The strike appeared to have killed to al-Qaeda linked operatives affiliated with al-Awlaki, the

Steven Tyler to debut first U.S. solo single on "Idol"

"American Idol" judge and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will premiere the video of his first U.S. solo single on the television talent show next week, broadcaster Fox said.

Additionally, Lady Gaga will mentor the four remaining contestants on the top-rated show as they battle for a place in the finals.

The music video of Tyler's new single "(It) Feels so Good", will be shown on the "American Idol" results show on May 12, Fox said.

Tyler, 63, has been embroiled for almost two years in a feud with his Aerosmith bandmates that was further strained when he accepted a job as a judge on "American Idol" this season.

Tyler, who has just published a tell-all memoir "Does this Noise in My Head Bother You?", told Rolling Stone magazine last week that he had to fight off a legal threat to toss him out of the band that he co-founded 40 years ago so that he could join "Idol".

Relations between Tyler and his four bandmates hit a low in 2009 after he fell off the stage and broke his shoulder, forcing the Aerosmith tour to be canceled. The band responded by going public with threats to find another singer.

Tyler said last week however that he had written to the band members seeking a detente and a desire to return to the studio to record what would be the first Aerosmith album of new material since 2001.

Paul McCartney is set to wed for the third time after proposing to his New York businesswoman girlfriend

Paul McCartney is set to wed for the third time after proposing to his New York businesswoman girlfriend of four years, Nancy Shevell.

The London-based spokesman for the former Beatle confirmed on Friday that McCartney and Shevell were engaged, but declined to give further details.

"It's true!", said spokesman Stuart Bell, after People magazine broke news of the engagement.

Shevell, 51, who is divorced, and the notoriously private McCartney, 68, are reported to have begun dating about four years ago, following the Fab Four singer's bitter split with second wife, model Heather Mills.

They have been seen together frequently at celebrity events and on McCartney's tours, and most recently posed for photos at a gala evening on Monday at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. A photo is displayed prominently on McCartney's official website.

American celebrity magazine Us Weekly reported on Friday that the "Can't Buy Me Love" singer popped the question last weekend "during a romantic candleit dinner for two."

People magazine said McCartney had given Shevell a ring, although she did not appear to be wearing it when the couple posed on the red carpet at Monday's Museum event.

"They have the right chemistry. They're both cool, chilled out and optimistic," People magazine quoted an unidentified source close to Shevell as saying.

McCartney was happily married for 29 years to American photographer Linda Eastman until her death of breast cancer in 1998. He said at the time that he and Linda had spent just 11 nights apart during their marriage.

Ever the romantic, his second marriage just four years later in 2002 to British ex-model Heather Mills took observers by surprise. The relationship quickly turned sour, ending in divorce in 2008 and an acrimonious legal battle over money.

About a year after separating from Mills in 2006, McCartney reportedly met and began dating Shevell, who sits on the board of New York's transportation authority.

Famously tight-lipped about his personal life, McCartney said in 2008 of their relationship, "I just like being in love."

McCartney's partnership with John Lennon in The Beatles in 1960s Britain produced some of the most famous and enduring pop songs of the past 50 years.

Now formally known as Sir Paul McCartney after receiving a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth, he is one of the wealthiest musicians in Britain, with an estimated fortune of 495 million pounds ($811 million), according to Britain's Sunday Times newspaper.

McCartney has five children -- four from his marriage to Linda Eastman, and one from his brief union with Mills. Shevell has a teenage daughter.

Oprah May Save the Biggest Star in the World for Her Final Guest

It's one of the best kept secrets in all of entertainment: who will be Oprah Winfrey's final guest, ever? With only 20 days left until the the May 25 finale, friends of the talk queen hint that the leading candidate at the moment is the biggest star in the world ... Oprah herself!

"How can one celebrity possibly sum up 25 years of such a groundbreaking show?" an insider asks. "Who could possibility come on the show and represent everything Oprah has done" from celebrity interviews, to human-interest stories to politics to women's issues to breaking news.

She's done it all, my source says, and "only one person could do that and that is Oprah herself."

Oprah has spoken before of her love of the final episode of 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show,' where Mary turned out the lights and left. Is she planning something in that vein? Perhaps, especially since the third and second to last shows (May 23-24) are going to be star-studded affairs in what producers have dubbed "Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular."

The free shows, being held at Chicago's United Center on May 17, will include "some of the biggest names in movies, music and television in a one-time-only gathering to celebrate the 25-year legacy [of the show]."

Best of all, viewers will be treated to something they rarely see: a surprised Oprah.

"As most of our viewers know, being surprised is not one of Oprah's favorite things," said Harpo executive producer Sheri Salata. "In the spirit of our farewell season, she is making a rare exception and we intend to make the most of that opportunity. It will be something to see!"

Since those episodes will clearly be chocked full of stars, glitz, balloons and freaked-out audience members, show insiders tell me that Oprah may want to go out for good in a more understated, introspective way.

"Her last show will look back at some of her most important and favorite moments from her show," a source says, not surprisingly. "But at the end of the day the show will end where it started. A woman with a microphone looking into a camera and trying to make the world a better place

Ron Artest has been suspended for Game 3 against the Dallas Mavericks.
Ron Artest took out his frustration on Dallas’ J.J. Barea in the final minute of the Los Angeles Lakers’ Game 2 loss to the Mavericks on Wednesday night. Lamar Odom went over to defend Barea as the Mavericks reserve guard dribbled the ball up the court. That is when Artest rushed over and inexplicably clotheslined Barea and was immediately ejected. Charles Barkley said during the TNT postgame show that Artest will get suspended for

the hit. Scroll down to watch the video. In news that didn’t require Nostradmus’ services to predict, Ron Artest has officially been suspended for Friday’s Game 3 in Dallas. The offending sequence, which took place with 24.4 seconds remaining in the game, featured Artest swinging his arm to basically clothesline Jose Barea. The unprompted, absolutely intentional act was so WWE, Ron might as well have borrowed Jack Nicholson’s courtside chair for the purposes of bashing the diminutive guard. So inevitable was this outcome, Phil Jackson didn’t even attempt to spin the possibility of Artest going unpunished in his postgame presser.

The Lakers were losing to the Mavericks at the end of Game 2 when Ron Artest decided to go Ron Artest. In a move only someone as numbskulled as him could have conceived, Artest ran into Mavs guard J.J. Barea

clothesline style. Check out the video courtesy of Ben Golliver: Artest received a technical foul and ejection for his actions. I know some people will defend him and say he shouldn’t be suspended, but there’s little doubt in my mind that he should be. The game was no longer in question, there was 30 seconds left, and Artest’s intent to harm Barea was clear. That’s a lot different from a physical play or doing something in the heat of the moment. This was clearly planned out by Artest and he should have to pay the price. Sadly, with the way he’s been playing, it might not be the worst thing for the Lakers if he missed Game 3.

Reuters Defends Decision To Publish Bin Laden Compound Photos

Osama Bin Laden Photos
The White House isn’t releasing photos of Osama bin Laden’s dead body, but that didn’t stop Reuters from publishing several gruesome photos Wednesday showing the aftermath of the U.S. raid on bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan and sending them to clients of the wire service.

Reuters defended that decision in a statement to The Huffington Post.

"As this is a story of global importance, Reuters chose to share these photographs with its media clients and allow them to make editorial decisions on how they were used," a spokesperson said.

The news organization declined to comment further on photos showing three, unidentified men lying in pools of blood. (WARNING: the photographs can be viewed here but they are very graphic.)

But in an article accompanying the photos, Reuters said it purchased the photographs from a Pakistani security official who entered the compound about an hour after the U.S. raid took place that killed the al Qaeda leader. The official chose to remain anonymous.

“Reuters is confident of the authenticity of the purchased images because details in the photos appear to show a wrecked helicopter from the assault, matching details from photos taken independently on Monday,” the article read.

During Wednesday's press briefing, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney read from a transcript of an interview President Barack Obama gave earlier in the day to "60 Minutes," whereby the president explained the reasoning behind not releasing a photo of bin Laden's corpse.

“We don’t need to spike the football, and I think that given the graphic nature of these photos, it would create some national security risk,” Obama told "60 Minutes" correspondent Steve Kroft.

The White House declined to comment on the Reuters photos.
