Republic Day India on 26th January

India celebrates its Republic Day on Wednesday. This holiday marks the date of the creation of the Constitution of India, which replaced the Government of India Act 1935 as the country's governing document, on January 26, 1950. The date was chosen to also commemorate the promulgation of the Purna Swaraj Declaration (or Declaration of the Independence of India) on January 26, 1930.

The highlight is the Republic Day Parade, which takes place in Delhi each year. Although its almost too late to get tickets, you can watch it live on the official Republic Day website.

Security is already high in Delhi in anticipation of the Parade. In addition to the usual attractions, this year it will feature a number of indigenous aircraft. Republic Day parades also take place on a large scale in other major Indian cities.

We congratulate the people and government of the Republic of India led by Their Excellencies, President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and its Embassy in the Philippines, headed by H.E., Ambassador Yogendra Kumar, on the occasion of its Republic Day. We wish them all the best and success in all their endeavors.

Happy Republic Day India!
