The government today informed the Assembly that a former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) chairman was still absconding and the court was moved for sanction to attach his property. "He is still absconding, and the vigilance bureau is working on its sources to arrest him. A petition has also been moved in a special court for sanction to attach his property," HRD Minister Baijnath Ram said in the House. He was replying to a query by Marxist Coordination Committee MLA Arup Chaterjee whether the ex-JPSC chairman was still at large despite having an arrest warrant issued against him. The government had last year dismissed 19 government officials for allegedly clearing the JPSC exam in 2008 with "corrupt practices in collusion" with top officials of the JPSC. The vigilance bureau arrested a couple of officials while the ex-chairman is still absconding having earlier moved an anticipatory bail plea in a special vigilance court. According to a vigilance report, at least 20 of the total number of candidates who had appearded in 2008 civil service examination should not have qualified for interview itself. One of the top officials was recently arrested from Hazaribagh and sent to judicial custody.
