2nd Chance is given to Maurice Clarett with the UFL

Maurice Clarett, now 26, was once considered the best running back in college football, destined for greatness as a pro. Now he’s grateful just to have played a single season in the upstart United Football League.
In fact, he’s grateful just to be free.
As a college phnom, he led Ohio State to a National Championship, scoring the game-winning touchdown in a dramatic win over Miami in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl. Ruled ineligible for accepting extra financial benefits, Clarett sued to enter the NFL early but lost; he was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2005. But he was cut before the regular season began, and his life began to spiral out of control.
Clarett spent 3.5 years in prison, serving a sentence for concealed weapons charges and holding up two people outside a Columbus, Ohio bar in 2006.
Now free from prison, and strengthened by the perspective of powerful life lessons, Clarett is getting a second chance as a 3rd string running back for the UFL’s Omaha Nighthawks.
“Any time you have a period of that much isolation, and you reflect on your life and the decisions that brought you to the place you’re at, it’s going to do one of two things,” he said. “You’re going to stay stuck in the same place or you’re going to evaluate and figure out how to get better.”
