A taped interview Bob Costas did with Packers cornerback Charles Woodson is to air Sunday night on "Football Night in America," NBC-TV's pre-game show. The Packers play the Patriots Sunday night on NBC. Costas talked to Woodson about his role in the infamous "Tuck Rule" playoff game between the Patriots and the Oakland Raiders nine seasons ago, when Woodson played for the Raiders.
Woodson appeared to force Tom Brady to fumble when Brady was attempting a pass late in regulation with the Patriots trailing by three points. Oakland recovered the ball. But in replay the play was ruled an incomplete pass. The Patriots went on to win the game and went on to win the Super Bowl. "I still think about it," Woodson said about that game. "It hurts. I don't mind getting beat but I hate being robbed." Costas asked Woodson about the proposed 18-game regular season. Woodson does not like it.
"The toll that it takes on the body . . . The players truly understand what that is," Woodson said. "Just look at the number of concussions you've seen this year. This is something that they'll have to live with the rest of their lives. Those guys have to hit every play. To take that to two more games will be devastating for a lot of guys."
Costas also is scheduled to conduct a live interview with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell during "Football Night in America."
