Von Trapp Family

Every year a Julie Andrews musical plays around Christmas time.  Between Mary Poppins and Sounds of Music, it is hard to tell which is the favorite.  Princess Diaries (with Juilie Andrews)  cannot even compare to the greatness of these older movies, although to many it ingrained into their childhood memories, and is a perfectcly nice movie.
Sound of Music has so many parrallels to today's poltiical climate worldwide that it's  a trifle scary. It is inspriing to watch the courage of Captain Von Trapp, standing up for his convictions,  Although in  checking stories of the real Von Trapp family singers, there are a few versions of the story.  No matter your age though, this family story is inspriing and relatest to all ages.
Recently Oprah had a reunion of the great grandchildren of the Von Trapp family, who are billed as the Von Trapp Children Singers. The "children" performing are the great grandchildren of Maria and Captain Von Trapp.  They performed on Oprah with the original cast of 'The Sound of Music' watching on . Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer watched the singeres perform "Eidelweiss" while clips from the original movie played in the background. Fantastic. In watching their escape, one wonders how it would have gone down with today's technologies of cell phones and GPS devices. The ending scenes of crossing the Alps is beautiful and the song gives the challenge to us all to live up to our convictions and follow our dreams.
